June – July 2007: Jericho - the dad!

Two females have had litters after Jericho. Tom Arne Kristiansen’s Luna gave birth to 4 males. Unfortunately, Luna died 14 days after the birth of her puppies, but an English Setter female has taken good care of the puppies Pics at

27. May 2007: Balto sold

After having evaluated last season, we decided to sell Balto. He is a good commandleader, but his paws cause problems on longer distances. Katerina and Jachym of Kipp d'Amundsen kennel came to this year's Norwegian specialty show and took him with them to Sweden. Katerina has good knowledge about feeding and tending to dogs with different problems, so we really hope she will be able to deal with his feet and use him on their team. We wish them good luck!

3. April 2007: Getting Karhu

KarhuI went over to Tore Hunskår and Elin Pedersen in Gol to pick our breeding puppy from the Juni & Bronco litter. We had decided to take a male, but the two males in the litter were so similar in type that it was difficult to choose,- a very even and nice litter. Karhu was mainly picked out due to his black paws J,- just like his father Bronco and half-sister Aki.

March 2007: Blackjack's Jericho Of Jedeye

We will within a short time, probably by mid-April, add another male to our stock. We means in this context Atle Eikevik, Tom Arne Kristiansen and Kari. We have been so lucky to get the opportunity to import this male from Jennifer and Blake Freking, Minnesota. He has led many races including the 2005 Beargrease Marathon and 2006 Beargrease 150. You can see his pedigree here.

2 – 5. February 2007: Rookie at Femund 400

Ulf at the start, Femund 400Ulf made his debut as long distance musher in Femund 400 and made it to the finish line! He came in as number 56. A fun and tiring experience we hopefully will gain experience from for further races. Interested in the results from the race? Go to: http://www.femundlopet.no/nor/

We celebrated Ulf’s debut, Åsa’s fantastic 5 place and Mona’s brilliant victory with a good meal! Way to go girls!

29 January 2007: Ready for Femund 400

Ulf is preparing himself for this seasons toughest challenge, Femund-400. He goes up to Røros on Thursday for the driver’s meeting. The 8 dog class starts at 20:00 on Friday 2 February. Tom Arne Kristiansen will be Ulf’s handler. Kari will try to update Ulf and the dogs’ progress on the blog as soon as she gets any news.

6 - 7 January 2007: Gausdal Maraton

After arriving as number 22 at the halfway checkpoint in the 184km race, Ulf unfortunately had to scratch 20km before the finish line. A female in heat made the males act all crazy at the end. Read Ulf’s report in the blog of 9. January. Mona Kolstad and Åsa Flatland from our local club Mush did great, placing as number 4 and 10. Congratulations

1-3 December: NSHK camp at Syningen

This weekend Syningen was the place to be! About 40 persons and their dogs arrived on Friday. We all helped out during this weekend with communal meals, late nights, short and long runs with the dogs (Ulf made 4 runs). Thanks to all of you for making this a perfect weekend!. Ulf and Tore Hunskår had a nice trip on Saturday.(see pictures)

22 - 24 Sept. 2006: NSHK Fall Meeting

Trainingrun NSHK-campThis year’s meeting was held at Gausdal. We woke up to a foggy and warm Saturday morning, but the cart race (4km) still gathered some teams. Ulf came in 6 of 8 teams, the dogs used to a slower training pace. In spite of the warm weather we managed to put in some kilometres of training. Besides training, Modig and Jack(Frost is his real name from now on) were picked up by their new owners; Siri Uhlen, Alvdal and Tove Brekke, Sørumsand. Gråtass stays with us.

8 - 10 September 06: Training Camp

To get better training conditions we went up to Strengen, close to Kalhovde for the weekend together with family Flatland and their Alaskan Huskies. The puppies had their own pen and loved the change of scenery. We managed three trips with the team during Friday night and Saturday evening, but Sunday was too hot for training, even in the mountains.

17. June 2007: Jack is back

JackJack came back to us because he has a tendency to be a bit noisy, which didn’t suit Tove’s neighbours…..
He seems to settle well with the rest of the pack. He is not dominant as his brother Gråtass, and we look forward to try him in harness this upcoming season.

24. March 2007: Rjukanløpet

AnkaRune Flatland

Our very first local race became a success. Even if the weather was a bit too hot, the mushers enjoyed the mountain-trail and it seemed like both the adults and children had a sociable weekend! You can read more about the race in Tuva’s and our blog of 27 March.

As always, so nice to meet everyone! This year, Ulf was the handler and the rest of us were racing. Kari participated in the 2*50km and Tuva and Hein used Bosse, Caia and Gråtass in the Children’s race. Asbjørn and Ingeborg spent their honeymoon with us together with Utu.

20. January 2007: Hallingen

Ulf decided to start with 7 dogs in the 8 class, because of Tara's heat. Runner went out after 70 km, because of a sore shoulder. The next 90 km of this 160 km race was tough, but Ulf and the dogs made it to the finish line as the last of 11 mushers in his class. (two scratched)

Unfortunately, no pictures from this race, but Ulf has written a report of his experience of the race. (blog 28 or 29 January)

29. December 2006: Smilla has left

Smilla and Balto

Smilla went back to Rikke today. She has been in full training this season, but hasn’t shown any real improvement from last season. A real pity since she is such a fun and easy dog to have around. But since she isn’t contributing enough to the team, we had to let her go. Our simple philosophy with limited space in the dogyard has to be: If they don’t pull, they don’t stay.

25. September 2006: Caia arrives in October!

CaiaWe have waited a long time to add another female to our kennel and in October Sassicaia’s Caia will arrive Norway from Northern Ireland. Her mother, Sassiacaia’s Dancing on Ice (Bambi), has produced good leaders for several UK teams. Her father, Alaskan’s Dogbert of Anadyr was part of the team which won 8 races in the 2005/2006 season for Michael Rolston, Sassicaia kennel, and thereby winning the Rally Championship in Scotland in 2006. A big thank you to Mary and Michael for letting us have Caia! Here is Caia’s pedigree.

16 September 06: Swedish Specialty Show

Buck - BISRikke and I went all the way to Evertsberg this year too. Fewer dogs entered, but very nice atmosphere! Since two of our dogs got 1JK and 1UK with HP, the best working dog was named after our Crown Princess Mette Marit, and I had the honour of handling Buck from Kipp d’Amundsen in the final round for the BOB title and he won, I was very pleased with the weekend! After dinner, Saturday night, Lotta Antoniussen taught us about stretching. Bronco was brought in to show the exercises. I hope to come back next year too.The critiques of Mithril, Vytok, Runner and Bronco can be seen at each dog’s page.BuckRunner, Evertsberg

September 2006: Utu's new life

Utu has now lived with Ingeborg and Asbjørn in Oslo for nearly two months, and is really enjoying her new life as an "only child" with two sporty parents. She has quickly adapted to life as a housedog. They had her for a week in February while we were away on the NSHK race and they seemed to enjoy each other’s company. Since we this spring decided that Utu would have a better life as a housedog, we were very pleased when Ingeborg and Asbjørn contacted us in July and wanted to have Utu. They are a perfect match!
