This season Mthril, Vytok, Bronco, Bosse and Yippi qualified for a 1. class merits in the NSHK’s merit system, in four mid-distances races. Jack and Runner qualified for a 1.class in three mid-distances races, while Caia completed one race with a first price, since she became injured in her second race. Since three mid-distances races were the limit for getting a 1. class merit for the season, all the males made it.
We were lucky to have Karsten Grønås as the judge at this year’s specialy show. About 80 dogs entered the show. I showed Karhu, Mithril and Vytok. Karhu 1UK, 4UKK, Vytok 1AK, Mithril 1AK, 1AK, 2AKK, 4BHK Results and pictures from the show: http://www.siberian-husky.net/
Went to Brandbu to the annual specialty show for polardogs with Jack and Mithril. Jack became best young male with a HP and Mithril became BIM with a Cert, so the trip was worth it..
We went over to Tom Arne and picked up Jericho last weekend.
Even if Caia is still pretty young, she has convinced us as a steady, focused and happy sled dog during her first season. This breeding will have Blackjack of Anadyr as a great-grandfather on Caia’s side and as a grandfather on Jericho’s side. We are looking forward to see the result of this breeding.
We went directly from Sham-draget in Sweden to Femunden. We had a great time as always. Ulf switched from 8dog to the 6dog, 2x50km class because Runner had a sore shoulder. Ulf did very well and won his class. Mithril and Bronco in lead,- they make up a good team on fast trails. The children participated in the children’s race as always, but this year Tuva also entered the “rookie-race”, 12km. She was very pleased with her 3dog team.
You find the results from the race here: http://www.siberian-husky.net/
This year, the Hallingen race was held between Tunhovd and Nesbyen, which meant a shorter drive for us. “A lot of weather” made the 160km race a tough event. For us in the 80km and 40km race, it just made the race memorable since we were helped by driving in daylight.
From our local sledclub Mush, 4 participants; Kjetil Haugersveen won the 8dog, 160km race, Åsa Flatland came in third. Kjetil Backen came in 5th in the open class 160km and Kari won the 8dog, 80km race. To make it a great day for Siberian mushers; Johanne Sundby came in third in the same class, and Tore Hunskår won the open class, 80km with an impressive time! Results can be found here: http://idrett.speaker.no/Organisation.asp?id=60155
Stig Torp and Lars Kristian Günther entered the 6 dog, 40km race with their Siberians, and Lars has put out nice photos and a video from the race. You can find them on his website: http://home.online.no/~kerle/index.cfm
During December, 5 puppies have left the kennel. Kenna has gone to Mari Aikio in Kuusamo, Finland, Nume has gone to Lena Buess in Jokkmokk, Sverige, Gila has gone to Sissel Breimo in Mo i Rana, Balder has gone to Ståle Einhaug and Wenche Breimo in Mo i Rana and Tana to Johanne Sundby in Oslo. Pippi will go to Tore Hunskår some time in January on a breeding agreement, and Mio will stay here with us.
Showed Mithril and Jericho at the International Dog Show at Bjerke, Oslo. We usually only enter specialty shows, but with Karsten Grønås as a judge it made sense to enter some dogs. 31 Siberians entered the show, dominantly working lines. Rikke’s old female Noia became Best of breed and her male River became Best of opposite sex, with both a Cert and Cacib. Congratulations,- I think Rikke felt that running around in the mud was worth it this day. Is she going to Crufts with River,- time will tell!
Mithril became 4th best male. Jericho also got a red ribbon (1. quality), but didn’t place in the group, but we have accomplished what we wanted concerning his “show-career”, so I think we will leave it with that. Many SH-friends present – nice to see you all!
Our first litter of ”pure imports” were born right after the specialty show was over. Caia gave birth to 4 females and 2 males.
Martin Degens and Anita Van Veldhuizen bought Gråtass. As previously mentioned, he was a bit too slow for our team, but he is very strong and eager.
Larka gave birth to 8 pups, 4 males and 4 females. More info and pictures of the puppies at: http://www.nay-la-chee.net/

10 6dog teams and 12 8dog teams decided to round at the season at our local race. The weather was again at our side,- a cold breeze, clear sky and good trail conditions made the race memorable both for the mushers. In the evening, Åsa and I decided to dress up in our national costumes for the award ceremony. The local shops and other sponsors had again been very generous to us and all the mushers got rewarded with a lot of gifts. On Sunday it was snowing a lot, but the children’s race also had a lot of entrants and they seemed to enjoy themselves.
Rikke decided to use Vytok as a stud dog on Larka. To check out the pedigree of the litter, go to: http://www.nay-la-chee.net/ Rikke also borrowed Vytok for Polardistans 150 and was very pleased with his performance. She finished 6th of 15 participants in her first try on longer distances – congratulations!
In the last minute we decided to go to Sham-draget in Sweden in connection to our annual trip to Femunden in our winterholiday. Ulf entered the 6dog, 2x45km race and Tuva had her debut as a junior-musher, 2dog, 2x5km.
Rikke Bergendahl, Viggo Jørgensen and Sigmund Alhaug were also there, together with friends from Sweden and Germany. We also made new friends during the weekend. We all had a great time. Ulf climbed from 4th to 1st place the second day. Tuva ended up 4th of 4, but improved very well on day two, and enjoyed the experience immensely. The result can be found here:
http://www.siberianhusky.se/, or read more about the race on our blog on the 19th of February.
Went to Vikerfjell north-west of Hønefoss to enter the Vikerfjell race. Kari decided to enter the 70km, 8 dog class. She placed 3rd of 5 in her class(only SH-team)
A very “kind” trail, beautiful landscape and helpful people made the race a nice event!
Caia and Jack had their race debut and did a good job.
The result from the race can be found here: http://www.ringeriketrekkhundklubb.no/

On the 10. October Tara gave birth to 7 puppies; 2 males and 5 females. The 2 males and 3 of the females had the typical colouring of their parents, while 2 of the females are piebalds. With more puppies arriving than we had expected, we might have puppies available for sale.
We really look forward to seeing these puppies develop. We will update the blog weekly with pictures and information about the litter.
After a lot of consideration we decided to breed Tara now and not wait until next heat which most likely would have been in January. Either way it would have /will affect the racing season. We believe we still have leaders to go to some races during the upcoming season. The pedigree and more photos can be found on the puppies page.
